Countdown to Zero

Published: December 1, 2011

Lucy Walker is a documentary filmmaker who has gone deep into the wild side of the Amish culture with “Devil’s Playground.” She’s detailed the journey of a half-dozen blind teenagers to the summit of Mount Everest in “Blindsight.” But before all that, she was the director for the kid’s show, “Blue’s Clues.” Now, Walker looks for clues in the dangerous territory of WMDs – nuclear weapons. Some of us grew up under the dark cloud of impeding nuclear doom, always aware that our next season could be a nuclear winter. But today, kids are oblivious to the threat of atom bombs…they’re like the monster in the closet. Even though we go to war at the first mention of dictatorships obtaining them, the overall knowledge of who has them and what they are capable of are unknown…just ask Herman Cain. The film spans through source interviews and snappy edited footage from the current threat to the birth of the A-Bomb. It’s not the most profound or revealing documentary, but it is fascinating – worth a watch.
