A Weekly Review of The Strand’s Happy Hour Scene

THE LOCALE | Pine Lakes Tavern

THE LOWDOWN | We found another shuffleboard table. And even better are the cheap drinks to go along with it. Pine Lakes Tavern is now open, and that’s where we went for happy hour this week.

Pine Lakes Tavern is located in the former Droopy’s building. You may still see the Droopy’s sign outside (the new sign will be up soon) but the inside of the establishment is much different. Pine Lakes Tavern is geared towards watching sports and eating good food. The menu includes items such as shrimp and grits, fish and chips, fish burritos, pimento burgers, she crab soup, salads, crab dip and more. Late night food is available.

The locale has a laid back atmosphere. You’ll hear happy chatter over music playing in the background. In the main section of Pine Lakes Tavern there are high-top tables and a low-top bar where you sit in actual chairs at the bar instead of barstools. There are numerous big screen TVs so that you’re able to catch a glimpse of sporting events no matter where you’re sitting. You can also choose to snag a seat at tables in a secondary room - each with its own personal TV. If you’re a fan of bar games, you can find darts, Golden Tee, Silver Strike, and, as mentioned, shuffleboard.

Happy hour runs from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. daily. Drink specials include $2.50 domestic beers and $3.25 house liquors. Also look for daily and happy hour food specials in the future. Top shelf liquors are reasonably priced, too.

TIPS | There’s no smoking inside, but you can smoke on the outdoor patio. Even if you’re a non-smoker, it’s worth it to step outside and check out the large outdoor deck overlooking a pond.
