A Weekly Review of The Strand’s Happy Hour Scene

July 31, 2012

THE LOCALE | Night Fever Retro Party Club

THE LOWDOWN | Looking for a party? You can find one at Night Fever Retro Party Club. The new club offers drink specials throughout the week, including on Fridays during the After Work/After Play Party, as well as happy hour, so that's where we went for happy hour this week.

Night Fever is located in Magnolia Town Center, set back off of U.S. 17 North in Myrtle Beach near Restaurant Row. Stepping inside the establishment will take you back to the retro era from the ‘70s and ‘80s. In fact, if you wear ‘70s or ‘80s clothing, you get in for free - nix the $5 cover charge. Admission is free for locals, too.

Chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Retro posters hang on the walls. Actually they are taped over framed art deco pictures that hang from when the locale used to be a restaurant. But these posters are more fitting for the decor, causing patrons to reminisce about old movie favorites such as “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” and “Footloose.” Other classic movies, such as “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever,” play on flat panel TVs throughout the establishment.

Lava lamps...yep, you'll see those, too, as well as tie-dyed T-shirt on the servers and bartenders. The bar and tables are made of swirled silver metallic material and there's a room with red velvet couches. A retro club wouldn't be complete without a disco ball. That's above the dance floor, which has two levels for dancing. The music, of course, includes all your disco, soul and new wave favorites from the ‘70s and ‘80s.

If you need nourishment after dancing the night away, the kitchen is open late. There is a $5 menu including burger and friez, hot dog and friez, wingz and friez and chipz and dipz (the “z” is intentional). You can snag-half price food and drinks during happy hour, which is 5-8 every Friday night. In addition to the "After Work/After Play" Party on Fridays, Night Fever has other drink specials throughout the week. Wednesday is Ladies Night, so there are $1 drinks and no cover for ladies. Sunday is Service Industry Pros night with $2.50 drinks.
