THE LOCALE | Fuego Mexican Grill & Cantina

THE LOWDOWN | Margaritas. Mexican food. Marsh view. You can find it all at Fuego Mexican Grill & Cantina in Murrells Inlet. That's where we went for happy hour this week.

Fuego Mexican Grill & Cantina is located on the waterfront in Murrells Inlet where the South-end Captain Poo's Bar & Grill used to be. It has a beautiful view of the inlet, especially from the large outdoor patio. There are covered and uncovered parts of the patio, plus a covered bar. The atmosphere outside is more relaxed and laid back than the inside, with live acoustic music every Friday night.

The waterfront side of the building is lined with windows, so even if you're indoors, you can keep your eye on the inlet. If you're inside, you'll hear Latin and salsa music playing in the background. The decor is considered Tex-Mex with a vibrant red interior, blue walls and vivid paintings. A large square bar sits in the middle, surrounded by two tiers of seating with granite tables. Actually, there are granite tables inside and out. There's no smoking inside, just out.

If you are a fan of craft beers, you'll want to head to Fuego Mexican Grill & Cantina. The bar has craft beers at decent prices. Bartenders offer fresh Sangria and make margaritas from scratch. Plus there are 27 types of tequila to choose from.

Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Drink specials include $2 domestic beers, $3 house drinks, $3.50 wines and $1 discount on draft beers. Happy hour food specials include a variety of appetizers for less than five bucks, including jalapeno poppers, Baja cheddar bites and jumbo wings.

You can also get good deals during game days. The game day menu is offered on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. and on Monday evenings. It includes menu items for less than $6, including pork sliders, mini-nachos and beef tacos. Drink specials during game days vary, such as $3 margaritas or $3.50 house liquors.

TIPS | Check out the lunch and dinner specials and follow Facebook posts for deals and live entertainment. Fill out the comment/suggestion card - the new bar is ready and willing to cater to locals.
