A Weekly Review of The Strand’s Happy Hour Scene

December 24, 2012

THE LOCALE | - Castano's Italian Steakhouse, Barefoot Landing

THE LOWDOWN | If you're a fan of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr., then Castano's Italian Steakhouse is just the place for you to listen to some of those Rat Pack hits while you enjoy a martini or glass of wine. That's where we decided to check out for happy hour this week.

Castano's Italian Steakhouse sits on the water near the back of Barefoot Landing where Dino's used to be. It has a warm, sophisticated lounge that provides the contort of sitting in your own living room. You can sit at the bar, booths or tables, or on the outdoor patio. There are large screens that play videos of Frank, Dean and Sammy singing their popular tunes. Later in the evening the music incorporates more modern favorites such as Michael Buble and Rod Stewart. And at night, the mood shifts into more of a classy night club atmosphere.

“Castano” happens to be the Italian word for “Brown”, which is the owners' last name. Curtis Brown and Darleen Brown decided to bring what they call “Dinnertainment” to patrons at Castano's Italian Steakhouse. That means there's some sort of presentation and entertainment including lighting and music changes involved in the dining experience. The dining area includes tiered seating so every table has a view of the water, private booths for couples and outdoor seating. The menu includes appetizers, salads, pasta, steak, veal and eggplant entrees and desserts.

During happy hour, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. daily, you can snag half-price appetizers including crispy shrimp, calamari, shrimp and grits and bruschetta. Drink specials include $4 martinis (Grey Goose martinis included), $6 wines and $4 liquors. You can get draft beer for $3 and bottled beers for $3.50.

TIPS | Check out the extensive wine selection. Castano's is offering a New Year's Eve special for $49.95 per person that includes champagne, dinner and fireworks display.
