THE LOCALE | Hurricane Maggie's Bar & Grill

THE LOWDOWN | If you're looking for an after-work appetizer and cocktail or late night food and beverages, Hurricane Maggie's Bar & Grill has you covered. That's where we went for happy hour this week.

You will find Hurricane Maggie's Bar and Grill where For What It's Worth it used to be (and before that, the Yankee Bar). It's a laid-back place with an eclectic group of patrons. You'll see locals, service industry workers, real estate agents, retirees and more belly up to the bar or sitting at one of the booths or tables.

Everything is made of dark wood and the establishment has a cozy feel to it. Several TVs hang throughout the bar, and a couple of smaller ones are tucked in beside the booths. Darts, Power Putt, Pac-Man and ring toss are there for your entertainment, and the bar hosts live bands a couple of times a week.

The downstairs is smoke-free. You can smoke, however, in the upstairs, which has couches, TVs, high-top tables and a pool table. There is also an outdoor deck with tables.

Hurricane Maggie's serves signature cocktails that include everything from something to get your night started, such as the Diamond Martini (made with Maestro Dobel tequila) to something for a night cap, such as an Italian Coffee or Banana Fosters Martin.

The food menu includes sliders, chicken tenders and wings that are grilled and made with a spicy dry rub. The Buzzard Dip, made with hamburger, sausage and cheese, is the most popular appetizer.

You can snag appetizers at a $1 discount during happy hour, which runs 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Drink deals include $2 vodkas, $2.50 bourbon and $2 domestic bottles. You can also get $1 discounted wine and drafts and premium liquors have reduced prices, too. All day everyday you can snag $10 buckets of beer and $2.50 Southern Comfort Cherry Bombs.

TIPS | Check Facebook for information about live entertainment and events. Hurricane Maggie's Bar & Grill might soon be open for lunch.

FIND IT | 7710 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. Call 497-5000.
