THE LOCALE | Charz Family Grill

THE LOWDOWN | It's a place for you can eat delicious food. It's a place where you can have a cold beer and watch the game. And, it's a place where you can bring your family. It's Charz Family Grill, and that is where we went for happy hour this week.

Charz Family Grill is in Surfside Beach where Southside Grill used to be . It is a family-oriented sports bar. The name Charz comes from putting together the first letters of the owners' kids' names. In fact, you might even be able to meet the "C" (Chris), "H" (Haley), or some of the other children while you are there.

Charz is a small, quaint locale with low top-tables for seating and a small bar in the back. The bar stools represent various NFL teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers. There are several big screen TVs and the sports bar will have the NFL Ticket come football season so you can watch your favorite team on game day.

The bar is non-smoking (it is in the town of Surfside Beach, after all) so you don't have to worry about inhaling secondhand smoke during your meal. The full menu include sandwiches such as the Holy Heff Burger (8 oz. burger stuffed between two grilled cheese sandwiches), the Pittsburgh Primanti sandwich (Italian sausage or cheese burger topped with Cole slaw and fries) and other more commonly known sandwiches such as a chicken sandwich, po boy, and rib eye sandwich. You can also get tasty wings, fresh handmade pizza, or entrees such as fish and chips, chicken parmesan, or shrimp scampi. The kids menu items are five bucks including a pasta bowl, ravioli, chicken tenders and pizza.

On Fridays you can get a deal on fish and chips or the fish sandwich during the Friday Fish Fry. Other food deals come during happy hour which is from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appetizers are half price, making fried mushrooms $2.50, cheese sticks or sausage sliders $3, and chicken tenders or buffalo shrimp $3.50. And you can get 10 outstanding wings for four bucks. Happy hour drink deals include 50 cents discount on beer and wine.

TIPS | If the parking lot is full, you can park next door at the Golden Egg.
