THE LOCALE | Smitty's Pine Island Pub

THE LOWDOWN | If you're a whisky or scotch fan, a craft beer fan, or even just a food fan, put Smitty's Pine Island Pub on your list of places to try. The new pub is now open and welcoming locals, and that's where we went for happy hour this week.

Smitty's Pine Island Pub sits at the corner or Pine Island Road and Robert Grissom Parkway where Pomodoro's Trattoria & Bar used to be. Brick walls encompass the establishment's large dining area. There is a stage for live entertainment, and the bar area is off to the right with a dozen bar stools and a handful of high-top tables. You'll see some big screen TVs, and you'll hear live music Tuesdays through Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m.

Smitty's Pine Island Pub has a casual and laid back pub atmosphere. It's a family owned and operated joint and the ownership is focused on making the locals happy. They also want to make your taste buds happy by serving craft beers and premium scotch. As a matter of fact, you can get a Smitty's Pine Island Pub Scotch Boys membership. Basically, the guys get together each month and drink expensive scotch.

The food menu includes a variety of items such as flat bread pizzas, burgers and sandwiches, such as the popular Thanksgiving Turkey Sandwich which includes turkey, stuffing, tomato and butternut squash on cranberry bread. You can also order appetizers such as spring rolls, shrimp cocktail and soft pretzels or dinners such as pot roast, steak and haddock fish. Smitty's Pine Island Pub offers $5.99 lunch specials including drunken haddock, penne vodka and chicken salad sandwiches, plus you can get a free sweet tea with your local ID.

Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays (Smitty's is closed on Mondays.) Select appetizers are discounted during happy hour. Drink deals include $2 domestic bottles, $3 imports, $4.25 wine and $4 well drinks. You can snag $5 Jack Daniels all day everyday.

TIPS | You can host private parties for groups from 12 to 150 people here.
