THE LOCALE | Marti's Paradise at Marlin Quay

THE LOWDOWN | One of the best places to catch the sunset along the Grand Strand is at Marti's Paradise at Marlin Quay, where you can sit along the inlet waterfront and watch the sun dip behind the horizon. That's where we went for happy hour this week.

Marti's Paradise is located at Marlin Quay Marina in Garden City Beach. It's Marti Sadanowicz’s fifth time opening a watering hole along the Grand Strand, the most recent previously located on 16th Ave. North in Myrtle Beach. This one at the marina is lined with windows and offers a fantastic view of the beautiful inlet. You can even sit outside on the wrap-around porch of the second story bar. Otherwise you can belly up to the long wooden bar inside or snag a seat at a high-top table.

The walls are blue with palm trees, and there is an ocean scene mural on one wall. Colorful decorations such as fish, lizards, frogs and pink flamingos hang around the establishment and there are a couple flat panel TVs. It's a casual joint filled with beach-goers, fisherman, tourists and locals.

At Marti's, essentially every hour is happy hour. The low prices include $2.50 beers, $3 vodka and $4 well drinks. The bar also has weekend specials.

TIPS | Parking is free, and you can also pull a boat up to the dock... Just check in at the dock office. Check Facebook for special events.
