Miley Cyrus isn’t the only one with a Wrecking Ball

October 2, 2013

THE LOWDOWN | It doesn’t matter what time you head to Wrecking Ball Tavern Bar & Billiards… the bar has cheap drinks. Better yet, the locale has happy hour specials on top of that, so that’s where we went for happy hour this week.

You’ll find Wrecking Ball Tavern Bar & Billiards on S.C. 544 near Coastal Carolina University where Choc’s used to be. The name isn’t in honor of Miley Cyrus’s new song, but rather a tribute to the condition of the place when the wrecking crew took over in January. Employees said it would’ve been easier to take a wrecking ball to the building. Instead, after three months of renovations, the establishment looks good and offers a nice atmosphere for locals to play pool and enjoy a cold beverage.

There is a square bar in the middle of the joint with a dozen or so bar stools. Billiard areas are on each side of the bar with a total of eight pool tables. During the week Wrecking Ball Tavern Bar & Billiards hosts APA Pool Leagues. Patrons can enjoy Glow Pool on the weekends when pool tables and drinks glow in the dark under a backlight. All day, everyday playing pool costs a mere 50 cents per rack.

Happy hour starts at 4 p.m. weekdays. Drink specials include $2 pints of Bud Light and various discounts on liquors. The bar is in the process of revamping the happy hour menu to include appetizers.

But you don’t have to come during happy hour to get a good deal. All day, everyday drink prices include $2 shots, $2.50 Bud Light, $3 pints and $4 mugs (28-oz draft beers). You can also snag well drinks for $2.50 and Jagermeister for $4.

TIPS | Wrecking Ball Tavern Bar & Billiards is hosting Halloween parties starting on Oct. 31 and continuing throughout that weekend. The lounge area will be open for the festivities as well as for live entertainment this fall.
