Geeking out at Myrtle Beach’s Nerd Bar

November 20, 2013

THE LOCALE | Nerd Bar at X-Con Comics

THE LOWDOWN | Calling all nerds! That's right...nerds. There's a new bar in town that caters to you. It's called Nerd Bar, appropriately, and that's where we went for drinks this week. The establishment’s motto: Come out and get your nerd on.

Nerd Bar is located inside X Con Comics on Main Street in Myrtle Beach. The comic store, which has been there for several years and was known as Corsair Comics, recently rebranded, remodeled and streamlined its store, downsizing its stock to make room for the bar, lounge and game room.

Once you enter X Con Comics and walk past the merchandise, you'll find a small bar, pool table and a sit-down Pac Man video game. In back there is an Artist Lounge which can host guest artists and comic book signings. It has a large easel, couch, chairs and a suspended art wall along the back.

There is another large room with couches, chairs and tables. This is where you can play table-top games on Thursday nights. On Fridays you can play the collectible card game Magic the Gathering. Saturdays accommodate a number of different events, such as live music, open mike night, art shows or movie night. Check out Facebook to find out details about upcoming events.

The Nerd Bar is open Thursdays through Saturdays starting at 6 p.m. Since it doesn't open until 6 p.m., there is no happy hour, per say, but you can snag craft beers starting at four bucks. Beer brands range from Goose Island to La Fin Du Monde. You can get sake starting at $3.50. The bar also has a sake tasting event every six weeks or so.

TIPS | In addition to the street parking out front, you can find a large parking lot behind the building.
