THE LOWDOWN | Nothing makes a drink taste better than an ocean view. And that's just what you get when you head to the oceanfront Barnacles Bar & Grille at Springmaid Pier. That's where we went for happy hour this week.

You'll find Barnacles Bar & Grille on Springmaid Pier at Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach. From anywhere inside you get a spectacular view of the ocean, be it at a booth, table or belly-up to the small bar. Outdoor seating is even available right on the pier if you want to be closer to the water.

Barnacles Bar & Grille has nautical decorations and old pier and fishing photos hanging on the walls. It's a casual joint with a laid-back feel, and locals are welcome.

Barnacles Bar & Grille serves appetizers, seafood, burgers, sandwiches and more. You can order and pick up your food at the food bar, but in the future Barnacles plans to have servers, as well as renovate the interior of the building.

Happy hour runs 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Drink deals include a dollar discount on wine, draft beers and well liquors. That means domestic beers are $2.50, import beers are $3.50, well drinks are $3.50 and wine is less than three bucks during happy hour.

You can also snag daily food and drink deals. For example, on Tuesdays you can get a burger and drink for $8.50, and the drink special is $4 vodkas. On Wednesdays you can get $4 rum drinks, and on Saturdays mimosas cost five bucks.

TIPS | Check the bar’s Web site for a full list of daily specials. You can park in the resort/pier parking lot.
