Dwayne Alcorn, formerly of Ultimate California Pizza, recently opened his own place called AJ’s Pizza at 5917 N. Kings Highway (formerly Pizza Shak) in Myrtle Beach. Specialty pizzas ($8-$19) include Buffalo chicken, barbecue chicken, Hawaiian style, cheese steak and sweet & spicy, which is topped with honey mustard, roasted chicken red onion, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheeses and jalapenos. Crusts can be white or whole wheat, while sauce options are red, herbed olive oil, garlic, Alfredo, pesto, barbecue, salsa, Ranch dressing, blue cheese and Thai. AJ’s also makes wraps, subs, salads, appetizers, a few pasta dishes and pie. Delivery is available, and it’s open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. The number is 449-4600.

The Grand Strand’s newest location of Moe’s Southwest Grill opens Thursday in the Sayebrook Town Center at 181 Brookton Circle in Myrtle Beach, which is off S.C. 544 near Target. It’s open daily at 11 a.m. to serve fat burritos filled with plenty of rice and other ingredients.

Chef Adam Kirby at Bistro 217 has launched his new spring menu designed to take advantage of the fresh flavors of the season. For lunch he is offering crunchy Thai shrimp salad with roasted peanuts, fried wontons, red coconut curry, peanut sauce and ginger vinaigrette; lump crab salad; pecan-crusted trigger fish salad with fresh fruits and candied pecans; a lunch-size portion of sautéed grouper with fried spinach and lobster sauce; and more. A few dinner selections include classic steak tartare with sriracha ketchup; flounder Francaise with spinach and Portobello ravioli; and seared scallop salad with roasted goat cheese. Bistro 217 is at 10707 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island, and the number is 235-8217. It’s open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for dinner from 5-10 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.

Since 2008 Taste of the Coast has been held at Barefoot Landing, but this year the culinary event is taking place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 3 at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex, which is at 150 Citizens Circle in Little River. Approximately 30 restaurants are signed up to offer food samples of their best appetizers, entrees and desserts, and there will be a children’s activity area with inflatables, a rock wall, face painting and more. Admission is $3 for ages 13 and older, and ride and food tickets are $1 each. The event will also be the site of a food drive to benefit North Strand Helping Hand, so canned food donations are encouraged.

King Street Grille, an upscale sports bar based in Charleston with six locations, is opening its seventh restaurant and its second on the Grand Strand, set to open on or near June 1 at 4891 U.S. 17 Business in Murrells Inlet. That’s the former location of Fuego Mexican Grill and Cantina. Cody Owen, who currently works at the King Street Grille at 3040 Howard Ave. at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach will be the manager of the new Murrells Inlet location.
