Mother’s Day deals highlight this week’s Myrtle Beach-area restaurant notes

•  Shoney’s will once again treat moms and families across America with its Mother’s Day buffet, with offerings such as slow-roasted turkey, fresh sliced smokehouse ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans as well as herb-roasted salmon and garlic shrimp, all starting at $11.99. In addition, each mom dining at Shoney’s will receive a free slice of strawberry pie. The free slice of strawberry pie does require a purchase of the Mother’s Day buffet and is available for dine-in only. The offer is available at Conway, Dillon, Florence, Hartsville and both Myrtle Beach locations.

•  Bistro 90 at 7209 S.C. 90 in Longs will be open from Noon to 7 p. m. on Mother’s Day (which is Sunday, in case you forgot). Features include USDA prime center cut, filet mignon, Maine lobster tails and Australian rack of lamb. Make reservations by calling 390-5151.

•  Croissants Bistro & Bakery at 3751 Robert M Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach has all kinds of cakes appropriate for Mother’s Day. Croissants will also serve Sunday Brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mother’s Day featuring pineapple roasted ham with pimento cheese scalloped potatoes. Each mom will be served a complimentary bellini as well. You can make reservations by calling 448-2253.

•  Flo’s Place Restaurant & Bar in Murrells Inlet will feature stuffed lobster and baked potato, with a salad and garlic bread before the entrée. Reservations can be made by calling 651-7222. Flo’s is located at 3797 U.S. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet. Flo’s Place opens at 11:30 a.m. daily.

•  Valentino Italian Restaurant has a limited Mother’s Day menu featuring shrimp cocktail, penne ala vodka, lasagna, lamb and pork chops, steak, chicken, veal and seafood dishes. Valentino is open from noon to 10 p.m. daily. It is located at 323 U.S. 17 Business, Surfside Beach, and reservations can be made by calling 839-4949.

•  Lincoln Park Bar & Grill is open for business. The building that was once Chili’s Grill & Bar has been sitting empty for two years and is now transformed into a sports fan’s dream with televisions all around the restaurant. Lincoln Park opens every day at 11 a.m. with $8 lunch specials until 3 p.m. Happy Hour runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The entire menu is available all day with wings, salads, pizza, pasta, steak and seafood. The restaurant remains open until guests decide to go home. You can find Lincoln Park Bar & Grill at 8739 U.S. 17 Bypass near Surfside Beach and the number is 668-4642.

•  After 37 years of being open as Cagney’s Old Place Restaurant in Myrtle Beach, the building that has been empty for two years opened as La Festa at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The 13,000-square-foot restaurant has been transformed into an Italian eatery and piano lounge that will host live entertainment every night. La Festa will open 4 p.m. daily for dinner featuring pasta, seafood dishes, steak, salads, pizza made from a brick oven and an extensive wine selection. La Festa is located on Restaurant Row at 9911 N. Kings Highway and can be reached at 945-9288.

•  Are you interested in learning the basics of making jams and jellies? A canning workshop has been scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon May 20 at the Horry County Extension Office, 1949 Industrial Park Road, Conway. This workshop is open to anyone wishing to learn how to preserve food safely or wanting to update their canning knowledge. Participants will be provided canning materials and will leave with a Ball Blue Book and a jar of strawberry lemon marmalade. The workshop is limited to the first 10 paid participants. There is a non-refundable fee of $30 per person and the registration deadline is May 16. Participants are asked to wear close-toed shoes. •  May is Teacher Appreciation Month in South Carolina and founding sponsor Bojangles’ is raising funds for the state’s public education system and honoring hard-working teachers. You can contribute by visiting any Grand Strand Bojangles’ location beginning May 19 through June 1 and celebrate teachers by purchasing a symbolic apple, $1 for red or $5 for green, to be displayed with the teachers’ names in the restaurant. All funds raised will support public education in South Carolina through the work of nonprofit South Carolina Future Minds. Bojangles’ is also treating teachers to a free iced tea or other beverage with any purchase through May 31 at participating locations.
