THE LOCALE | Flaming Asian Bistro

THE LOWDOWN | If you enjoy sushi and sake, Flaming Asian Bistro has you covered. That's where we went for happy hour this week.

Flaming Asian Bistro is located on U.S. 501 across from Tanger Outlets near Carolina Forest. It used to be Explore Asian Bistro & Grill. The hibachi tables are gone and replaced with low-top tables and booths. There is also a sushi bar in the dining area.

The bar area has a long marble bar that seats about 15 people, plus there are a handful of high-top wooden tables. You can watch one of four big screen TVs in the bar area.

The menu includes Asian cuisine, authentic Chinese food, hibachi and a variety of sushi. Popular drinks include sake (both hot and cold) and specialty drinks such as the Flaming Special Drink (Absolut Vodka, Melon liqueur, pineapple juice, OJ, grenadine).

Happy Hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Drink deals include $2 drafts, $2 well liquors, $3 wines, $5 Absolut vodka drinks, $6 Hurricanes and $6 Flaming Special Drinks. There are a number of appetizers offered for less than five bucks during happy hour. For example, you can snag edamame for $2.95 and Ban Ban Tuna, shrimp tempura, pork dumplings or chicken satay for $4.95. Select sushi and sashimi items are also half-price during happy hour, including Cali roll ($3.50), spicy tuna, salmon or crab ($3.95) and shrimp tempura ($4.95).

TIPS | Flaming Asian Bistro offers half-price sake and specialty rolls on Mondays and Wednesdays.
